CHAPEL HILL, NC — Posted Sep. 29, 2010
A children’s concert, “The Sound (and Form) of Music,” will be given by the Chapel Hill Philharmonia on Sunday, October 17, at 3:00 pm. Conductor Donald Oehler will lead the orchestra in beloved tunes from Rodgers’s The Sound of Music. Illustrative examples of symphonic form will be heard in Sibelius’s rousing Finlandia (a symphonic poem), Hadyn’s ‘surprising’ Andante from his Symphony #94, and Strauss’s symphonic “Emperor Waltzes.” Ending the program will be Strauss’s clap-along “Radetzky March.”
The concert will be in the Kenan Music Building Rehearsal Hall on the UNC-CH campus (entryway from the sidewalk between Ackland Art Museum and Kenan). Post-concert contact with brass and string players and instruments will be available. Admission is free.
