Chapel Hill Philharmonia Concert Features “Musical Revolutions”

CHAPEL HILL, NC — Posted Nov. 14, 2010

On Sunday, December 12, 2010 the Chapel Hill Philharmonia will play two exciting classical works that helped shape the course of musical development. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica, is a musical milestone that blended classical style with the defining features of the new romantic period in the first decade of the 19th century. Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite” a century later helped transform musical rhythmic structure into more energetic, spontaneous form.

Aptly called “Musical Revolutions”, the concert is at 7:30 pm in Hill Hall Auditorium on the UNC-CH campus. Conductor Donald Oehler will lead the Chapel Hill Philharmonia, a group of dedicated amateur musicians from the Triangle area who play for the love of classical music. Admission is free.
