Chapel Hill Philharmonia Concert Features Soloist Matthew McClure

CHAPEL HILL, NC — Posted Nov. 23, 2011

On Sunday, December 11, 2011 the Chapel Hill Philharmonia’s “The Titanic 20th Century” classical concert features UNC-CH faculty member Matthew McClure as soloist. Mr. McClure will play the alto saxophone in Ibert’s lively “Concertino da Camera”. Currently assistant director of UNC-CH bands, Mr. McClure has a Masters in conducting from The University of Tennessee. He has studied saxophone with Jay Romines, Paul Haar, and Steven Stusek and performed as the winner of numerous concerto competitions. Recently he helped form the North Carolina Saxophone Ensemble and the local “Town and Gown” saxophone quartet.

Conductor Donald Oehler will then lead the orchestra in Mahler’s massive, magnificent Symphony #1. The concert is at 7:30pm in Hill Hall Auditorium on the UNC-CH campus. Admission is FREE.
