Young Artist Concerto Competition

2025 Winner
Eric Sun, Piano

Eric, a junior at East Chapel Hill High School, has been playing piano since he was five years old. Besides piano, he also enjoys tennis, singing, and science.

 

Eric won the Young Artist Concerto Competition with the first movement of the Saint Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2., which he will perform with the Chapel Hill Philharmonia on Sunday, May 4. Come out and support this talented young artist!

Interested in competing?

The Young Artist Concerto Competition is open to pre-college musicians between the ages of 13 and 18 on January 1, 2026 who live in Orange, Chatham, Durham, or Wake county. The winner receives a cash prize and the opportunity to perform with the CHP in our spring concert.

Ivan Menolascino, Piano

Since he began playing at age 5 (with much of his practice on a small electric organ), Ivan has won multiple competitions on piano. What's more, he is also an accomplished cellist. Ivan won the Young Artist Concerto Competition at thirteen years old, performing the first movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the CHP.
