Young Artist Concerto Competition

The 2023 Young Artist Concerto Competition was held on February 25 in Moeser Auditorium.

We congratulate all of the participants for their fine auditions! Each student demonstrated a high level of technique, preparation, and musicality.  

2023 Winner

Benjamin Luo, piano

On Sunday, April 30, Benjamin Luo will join the orchestra to perform the first movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. Benjamin, a middle-schooler who hails from Apex, North Carolina, began his piano study with Florence Ko at age five. Since then, he has competed in various piano competitions and has garnered over forty first-prize awards in a myriad of piano competitions, including eighteen wins above the state level. Apart from music, Benjamin enjoys track & field, building with LEGOs, and playing video games.

Kali Bate, Violin

Kali won the competition while a sophomore at Cary Academy. In addition to being an accomplished musician, she is also the author of two award-winning children's books about the power of music. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Kali did not have a chance to perform with the CHP.
